With earnings season in full swing after major banks released quarterly reports, U.S. stocks mostly traded lower on Wednesday. After slumping to start the week and rebounding on Tuesday, major U.S. indices continued trading lower with the exemption of the Dow which was up 0.71%. Treasury yields retreated which provided some support, following the continued escalation of the long-term notes. AT&T, Philip Morris, Snap, American Express, and Verizon are set to release earnings on Thursday and Friday. The Beige Book was released today which showed expanded further on the current state of the U.S. economy. The report showed inflation has continued to rise and is not showing signs of slowing down. Still, the U.S. economy showed positive signs of growth during the measured period.
The $VIX trades near the $20 level. The Geopolitical risks in Ukraine and earnings data can impact the next move in the market. We are watching the overhead resistance levels in the SPY, which are presently at $448 and then $451. The $SPY support is at $441 and then $435. We still expect the market to continue trading higher in the next two to six weeks. In the short term, the market is oversold and will continue the bottoming process for the next few sessions. Globally, European markets closed in the green while Asian markets traded to mixed results. We encourage all market commentary readers to maintain clearly defined stop levels for all positions.
